Simu Liu posted a fight video to Twitter, giving fans a glimpse into what his Master of Kung-Fu will be dishing out in Shang-Chi.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu gave fans a taste of what’s to come in the film with a new video posted to Twitter. Liu is set to star in the MCU’s 25th entry as the titular character when the film hits theaters in July 2021. Liu will star alongside Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Ronny Chieng, and Michelle Yeoh. The film has shifted around the release calendar several times, with its original release date of February 12, 2021, pushed back because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Liu has been embroiled in controversy as of late. The star recently deleted tweets that he had posted calling out Mark Wahlberg for the hate crimes he committed against two Vietnamese men in 1988, for which Wahlberg was convicted of felony assault. Liu was recently cast alongside Wahlberg in Arthur The King, and the actor deleted his tweets calling out Wahlberg. Many found this hypocritical, but Liu has taken to Instagram to defend his position. The actor says he hopes to create an open dialogue with Wahlberg while working with him, something he believes the tweets may have prevented.
Liu has continued posting on social media despite the controversy, and a recent post on his Twitter shows off the actor’s fighting skills. Liu says the video was filmed in Sydney sometime last year. The footage shows Liu fighting Zac Wang of Karate Kid fame and Vi-Dan Tran on the deck of some building in what looks to be downtown Sydney. Check out the full video below:

The video is just a taste of what’s to come in Shang-Chi. The character of Shang-Chi is sometimes referred to as the Master of Kung-Fu, making his martial arts skills vitally important. Liu already showed off the impressive bodybuilding he’s done for the role. With plot details revealing that the film won’t be an origin story, but rather a journey into Shang-Chi’s past, the film will start with Liu’s character’s skills already fully developed. It’s an exciting way to avoid origin stories’ trappings, which can be plodding and unnecessary.
While other details are scarce, the video is a creative way to promote the upcoming movie ahead of an impending trailer or peak at the film’s visuals. With filming having wrapped in October, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is amid post-production. With a release date a short seven months away, the publicity campaign will be underway shortly. Until then, Liu’s video can hold over fans who are curious about what Liu will bring to the table as a master of martial arts.
